botBrains vs. Zendesk AI

Why teams choose botBrains over Zendesk AI

Both work inside Zendesk, and your helpdesk stays. The difference is the AI: per Zendesk, its AI reads text only, while botBrains also reads attachments and acts through code.

As of October 13, 2026. Zendesk AI information from public sources by Zendesk and Zendesk partner Leafworks. botBrains prices in euros; Zendesk prices in US dollars per zendesk.com, per-minute rates from Zendesk’s rate calculator for a German landline number.

The top reasons teams choose botBrains

Resolves tickets with attachments.

Screenshots, photos, invoices and PDFs feed into botBrains’ answers, so the AI resolves these tickets too. According to Zendesk, Zendesk AI processes text only, so such tickets reach your team after escalation.

Higher resolution rate.

Whatever is connected, the AI handles itself instead of escalating. Custom actions turn connecting standard software, in-house APIs or databases into a task of minutes, especially with botBrains Engineer. So new processes are up and running fast. Monitors, custom scorecards and topics give you a fast, deep understanding of AI performance. Suggestions make it easy to find and act on resolution potential.

No partner, no extra costs.

For complex use cases, Zendesk recommends experts. That means a second contract for its AI Expert subscription or a partner, extra cost and coordination between three parties. Leafworks cites about six weeks. At botBrains, the rollout is included: one contract, one contact, live in 1 to 2 weeks.

What to know about Zendesk AI in 2026

Old bots have to move.

Since August 31, 2026, Zendesk no longer develops the legacy bot builder and AI agents Essential, apart from critical bug fixes. Existing bots have to move to the new AI agent experience. According to the announcement, Zendesk migrates whatever hasn’t moved by early 2027 itself, with some exceptions.

More than the interface changes: new AI agents serve only one channel type, existing bots may need to be rebuilt, and Zendesk notes that resolution counts and costs may change. If you are rebuilding anyway, it is a good moment to choose your AI layer again.

New pricing model since May 2026.

Since May 18, 2026, Zendesk sorts automated resolutions into three tiers. Assisted escalations and contained resolutions are free; only verified resolutions are billed. Whether a conversation qualifies is checked by a Zendesk language model based on the text once the conversation ends. Older accounts stay on the previous model until they switch.

An automated resolution costs $1.50 from a prepaid commitment and $2.00 without one. botBrains bills AI answers instead of classifications: €0.56 per answer in ticketing, and you can see each one in the conversation history.

Two acquisitions in two years.

To be fair: Zendesk is investing heavily in AI. In March 2024 it acquired AI vendor Ultimate, whose platform ran as AI agents Advanced next to Zendesk’s own bots. In March 2026 Zendesk removed that split and made the Advanced capabilities standard in every plan. Voice AI agents followed in September.

In the same month Zendesk acquired Forethought, its second AI agent vendor in two years. So today you choose between two compromises: Zendesk’s own agent, which per Zendesk reads text only and has to be built per channel type, or Forethought, which its sub-processor list hosts in the US and which Zendesk’s regional data hosting policy explicitly excludes.

botBrains noticeably relieves our service team. The answers that our AI chat Kira provides are precise, fast, and absolutely top quality, so good that some customers would actually prefer to talk to Kira on the phone. Changes or adjustments to the chat can be implemented in seconds, which gives us maximum flexibility. For us, botBrains has become a reliable component of our customer service.

How we make switching from Zendesk AI easy.

You keep Zendesk with its seats, workflows and reports. Only the AI layer changes, and here is exactly how that works.

  1. 1

    You don’t pay twice.

Still under contract with Zendesk AI? On a 12-month deal, we waive our fees for the months you’re still paying Zendesk AI, up to the amount you pay there.

  2. 2

    Zendesk stays, the AI changes.

botBrains takes over one seat in your Zendesk. Your help center, website, PDFs and past tickets become knowledge, and we rebuild your actions with you as custom actions in code.

  3. 3

We go live step by step.

Drafts as internal notes first, then a growing share of tickets, topic by topic, up to autonomous answers. You keep a special right of termination in the early phase.

Our honest comparison promise

Most comparison pages are sales collateral in table form. Pick the rows carefully and you win every table.

Competition is good. One-sided comparisons are not.

So here is our rule: every row cites public sources, both products get the same level of detail, and we show where Zendesk AI is the better choice. If you spot a wrong or outdated claim, email us at info@botbrains.io. We will check it and correct it.

Where Zendesk AI may be a better fit.

You want everything from one vendor.

Helpdesk, AI agents, Copilot, QA and workforce management all come from Zendesk. AI agents are included in every plan, so you can start without a new contract. botBrains is an additional vendor.

Your customers write on social media.

Zendesk messaging connects WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, LINE and Apple Messages, and AI agents answer there in about 80 languages. botBrains offers WhatsApp by invitation only.

Your procurement requires certificates.

Zendesk is certified for SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001. botBrains is not yet: we work under a DPA in ISO 27001 certified data centers, and our own certification is planned.

Questions and answers.

What teams ask most often when they compare botBrains and Zendesk AI.

Zendesk AI is the helpdesk vendor’s own AI: AI agents for messaging, email and phone, plus Copilot for your team. The AI agents are included in every Zendesk plan and billed per automated resolution. According to Zendesk, they process text only.

botBrains is an AI agent from Berlin that works inside your Zendesk: it answers tickets, sets fields and status, and escalates with to-dos. It also reads attachments, acts in your systems through code with Unitools, and all data stays in the EU. It is billed per AI answer in a monthly plan.
